Equality

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to engaging with and offering treatment, care and support to all sections of society, regardless of disability, gender, race, age, religion or belief and sexual orientations.

We have a diverse workforce, which allows us to have access to a wide pool of talent to deliver the best services possible.

We launched our Single Equality Scheme in late 2009 which outlines our commitment to equality and diversity – both as an organisation offering healthcare services and as an employer. Our Single Equality Scheme is available at this link.

Equality impact assessments are undertaken on all Trust policies. For a list of those that have been through this process, please contact Liz Cooke on liz.cooke@jpaget.nhs.uk.

What's new?

Under the Equality Act 2010, as a public authority, we have a legal obligation to provide equality of opportunity and eliminate discrimination in relation to protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation. We have developed an Equality Action Plan for 2012-2015 which will be reviewed annually and is available here. An easy read version of the Action Plan is available here.

The 2013 updated Equality Action Plan is available here

The objectives for the Trust for 2012/13 will include:

  • To promote leadership on equality at Board Level
  • Improve the quality of equality data collected for both patients and staff and to make it widely available to managers and staff
  • To focus on the health and well being of staff
  • To ensure all aspects of training and appraisal are analysed and reported by the protected characteristics

We want your views

We welcome your views on the Action Plan, on shaping it further and influencing its development. Please take this opportunity to let us have your views on whether you feel the priorities we have identified are appropriate and whether there is anything you would like to see added. A feedback form is available here
