Cancer Care Navigators
From diagnosis to discharge, living with and beyond cancer.
The team of five Cancer Care Navigators, based at the Louise Hamilton Centre on the James Paget hospital site, are a new addition to the wider Cancer Services team, and work closely with clinical teams in order to promote person centred care and to provide the best possible care at a time when you need it most.
The team have all worked in the NHS for a number of years in various departments. They understand through personal experience just how devastating a diagnosis of cancer can be and the difficulties that can be faced, not just physically but emotionally too, and how those effects can continue even after treatment has been completed.
They have all completed an intensive training programme and are fully trained to:
- · support you and those around you from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond
- · signpost to local services to meet your individual needs
- · refer on to supportive and financial services if required
- · be a listening ear to help you and your companions with physical and emotional wellbeing
The team hold regular wellbeing events, including a monthly ‘Coffee, Cake and Natter’ group where you can meet the team and also other patients and their families/carers. With regular guests including clinical teams and the chaplaincy team these mornings can be informative as well as providing social interaction with people who know and understand any feelings you may be having.
