Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
The James Paget University Hospital Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit cares for patients in Great Yarmouth and Waveney that are having problems up to 12 weeks and 6 days gestation of pregnancy.
The patients are normally having either pain or vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. The patients will have an assessment by the nurse which may include an Ultrasound scan and the appropriate care and treatment will be planned for the patient.
The unit is staffed by a small nursing team of nurses with experience in Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Loss. Some of the nursing staff are also qualified to perform the Ultrasound scan for the patient.

- Assessment of the patient
- Ultrasound Scan
- Liaison with Gynaecology medical teams as appropriate
How can I get a referral?
Patients can be referred by their General Practitioner or Midwife. Patients are also referred by the Accident and Emergency Department. Patients must meet the criteria of having a positive pregnancy test and a history of being at least 6 weeks before a referral can be accepted.
Where is the department located?
The Early Pregnancy Unit is located on the first floor.
What are the opening times?
The Unit is open 9:00 – 16:30 Monday to Friday.
