Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU)

Welcome to the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU)

MAU is located on Ward 11.If you are attending MAU, please enter via ward 11 doors, not the Antenatal clinic

MAU is where you will be asked to attend if you require an Antenatal check-up that cannot be undertaken by your Community Midwife or in Antenatal clinic.

You will be seen by a Midwife initially and if required a Doctor. There is also a Support Worker to help on MAU.

We operate an appointment system to minimise waiting times. If you are unable to attend your appointment please let us know so that we can rebook for another person. Sometimes you will be required to wait for test results before going home, or to make a plan for your care.

You may be referred by a Midwife for review.

A Doctor may ask you to attend MAU for an additional check-up or monitoring following a routine or additional visit.

Possible reasons for attending MAU are:

  • Raised Blood Pressure
  • Severe itching in pregnancy
  • Reduced Fetal movements
  • Assessment of your baby’s size
  • To see if your waters have broken
  • Pre-operative clinic before having a caesarean section

Or any other problem which requires additional monitoring.
