The A&E department at the James Paget University Hospital is currently experiencing high demand – and patients are being asked to consider whether their condition is a genuine emergency.
We anticipate that this high level of demand will continue into the weekend (22/23 July) as it marks the start of the school summer holidays and the number of visitors to the area is due to increase.
The message from our hospital A & E consultants is clear:
• Do you need to go to A and E? Is it a genuine emergency?
• If not, consider alternatives such as visiting your pharmacist; ringing 111 for advice or making an appointment with your GP.
If you have to attend A&E, remember that patients with less serious conditions should expect to wait as more pressing cases are dealt with in priority order.
