This week our staff have been getting plaster training – gaining new skills around putting plaster casts on correctly and learning how to make it as comfortable as possible for patients during the process.
The ‘Practical Plastering Day’ has seen staff practice on their colleagues to plaster both arms and legs successfully, as well as being introduced to the use of the plaster saw to remove the casts when they have done their job.
The training has been provided by Orthopaedic Practitioner Wendy Kendall to complement a new training package put together by James Paget Emergency Department Sister Helen Tearle, which is designed to familiarise staff with the correct techniques and best materials to use.
