Restricted Access to Emergency Assessment and Discharge Unit

23 August 2018

Work continues on the improvements being made in our Emergency Department which will benefit both our patients and our staff.

To allow a new floor to be laid, the main entrance to our Emergency Assessment and Discharge Unit (EADU) will close for a short period next week. Access will be restricted for patients, families and their carers, with no-one able to enter unless they are escorted from the main reception areaby a member of staff.

These restrictions will be in place from 7am on Wednesday 29 August to 6pm on Saturday 1 September 2018.

During this time, staff will be in place to escort patients and their family between 8am and 8pm each day.

While the restrictions are in place, we will have limited space available. If you are visiting a relative there will be periods where you will need to wait until a staff member can escort you, potentially of up to 15 minutes. A small waiting area with chairs is available.

We would appreciate visiting numbers being kept to a minimum wherever possible during these four days so that we can focus on the care of our patients.

To protect our patients at no point during this time will a patient or their family/carer be permitted to enter or exit EADU unescorted.

People visiting A&E will access services in the usual way.

However, there will be different access routes to Ward 16 during this time – please follow the signs.
