During his time at the organisation he oversaw its growth from 800 homes and a staff of 15 to some 4,500 homes overseen by a team of 800 people, before retiring last year.

The 62-year-old from Lowestoft has sat on the boards of many organisations, including North East Suffolk Citizens Advice Bureau and Eastern Procurement Ltd and is currently chairman of Community Action Suffolk.

He said: “The James Paget has a strong track record of providing quality services to patients, as evidenced by its third ‘good’ rating in succession from the Care Quality Commission.

“Importantly, the Trust is ambitious and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping develop sustainable and effective services, in partnership with our health and social care partners.”

Mr Javes was appointed for a three-year term of office from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021.

He will be undertaking his induction to the Board from January to March, prior to taking on the role of Audit Committee Chair from 1 April 2019, when he will take over from Peter Hargrave who is stepping down from his Non Executive Director role after more than five years.

Trust Chair Anna Davidson said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen to the James Paget.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience which will really help us as we continue our journey of continuous improvement for both our patients and staff.”

Mr Javes will attend his first Board of Directors’ meeting on 25 January.
