Breast screening van in Beccles

19 March 2019

The Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS Breast Screening Service’s mobile screening van will be in Beccles next month.

The van, which travels to towns across the Yarmouth and Waveney area during the course of each year, will be based at Roys store in Beccles from Tuesday 2 April 2019. It will be based at the store site for two months before moving to Lowestoft.

Women aged between 50 and 71 receive an invitation through the post for a screening session every three years. Those receiving an invitation for a screening can change their appointment time if they are unable attend – or can book an appointment at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, if it is more convenient.

However, women who are over 71 and have not been screened in the last three years are encouraged to book an appointment as one in three women who get breast cancer are aged 70 or more.

Between screening appointments, women are encouraged to be breast aware, to know what is normal for them – and to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer by maintaining a healthy weight, cutting down on alcohol, keeping fit and staying active.

Dates and locations for the van’s visits to Lowestoft will be released in due course.
