02 October 2019

Following a number of successful CPR training events, we’re offering another opportunity to learn these valuable and potentially life-saving skills at another open day being held on Thursday 17 October.

The training is again being provided free of charge and is open to anyone who would like to visit the foyer of our hospital between 9am and 5pm – all ages are welcome.

More than 180 people have been trained over two previous day sessions, while dozens more have taken advantage of evening training offered in conjunction with local charity Heart 2 Heart Norfolk.

All the sessions teach the basics of bystander Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, and you’ll learn from our experts including some of our top emergency consultants, cardiac nurse specialists and practitioners such as our Resuscitation Service team.

There’s no need to book – simply come along to the main hospital foyer at any point between 9am and 5pm on Thursday 17 October.

The day is again being organised by Dr Emily Russell, Consultant in Acute Medicine, with support from her highly trained colleagues, and is open to anyone – children and adults, visitors and staff - who is interested in learning skills which could prove vital in the event of a medical emergency.

You will be guided through learning simple resuscitation skills, which could one day save a life.  Under the guidance and supervision of our expert tutors you will be able to ‘have a go‘ with resuscitation equipment and throughout the process you will learn more about the techniques and interventions that could make all the difference until emergency personnel arrive at the scene.

Dr Russell says; “Simply having bystander CPR can quadruple a person’s chances of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest but currently only 40% of people in these circumstances receive it.  Bystander CPR really does save lives.

“No prior experience is necessary - only a willingness to learn. You can be a complete beginner or someone looking for a refresher – either way you will learn new skills and will gain confidence in your abilities.”
