Guests at this year’s James Paget University Hospital Annual General Meeting will be treated to a high tea - prepared by the hospital’s award-winning catering team.
The team – which earlier this year picked up a coveted Gold ‘Eat Out, Eat Well’ award for its commitment to providing healthy food options – will be offering a range of freshly-prepared sandwiches and cakes as well as home-made soup to people attending the AGM on Wednesday, 18 September.
More than 2000 meals are prepared on site by the team each day for patients, visitors and staff, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients where possible.
Head of Facilities Management Nichola Hunter said that the team had to prepare a variety of food choices daily to ensure that the nutritional needs of patients were met, while also providing dishes to satisfy the hunger of busy staff.
“The team have to be flexible,” she said. “Many of our patient meals have to be prepared according to dietary need, so we have menus for those who are diabetic or need high protein, low potassium or nut-free food.
“But we also try to accommodate patients’ wishes. For example, we know that many of our patients with dementia are comforted by finger food because it is easily accessible. So, a variety of sandwiches and cakes, similar to those being served at the AGM, would be an ideal meal for them.”
The food will be served at the end of the meeting, which this year features a keynote presentation on developments in our maternity service, aimed at improving patient experience.
Also on the agenda is a summary of the Trust’s performance during 2018/19, a review of the year from the Governors – and two songs from the newly-formed James Paget Choir.
The meeting is being held in the Burrage Centre on the hospital site at Lowestoft Road, Gorleston and formally starts at 7pm.
Before that, guests will be able to visit a showcase exhibition of the Trust’s services and initiatives, which is open from 6pm.
The Annual Report and Accounts for 2018/19, including the Quality Report and summary documents, are available on the Trust’s website at www.jpaget.nhs.uk
