A thousand pounds has been handed over to our Colorectal team following a Race Night at the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston in September.
The event was organised by patient Bernard Lafferty, from Great Yarmouth, who underwent bowel surgery at the James Paget two years ago, who wanted to say a special thank you to the team who looked after him.
Bernard said; “From diagnosis to operation the care and treatment was wonderful and all done with fantastic speed. I cannot thank my surgeon Vamsi Velchuru enough and the whole team have also provided excellent aftercare.
“I wanted to do something to say thank you so decided to hold a race night and, with the help of my wife and friend, family members and other friends, we organised the event at the Cliff Hotel on Friday 20 September. Around 70 people attended and we managed to raise £1,000.
“I’ve never had a bad experience at the hospital – with this and another procedures – and I’m grateful for the care I’ve received from the team.”
On Thursday, 28 November, Bernard visited the hospital to handover the money to the Colorectal team including bowel cancer surgeon Mr Velchuru and Colorectal Nursing Service Specialists Sister Becky Brown and Sister Emma Schofield.
The money will go towards the team’s activities including supporting patient care and staff training.
