Join us for CPR day

06 February 2020

On Valentine’s Day we’re inviting you to help mend broken hearts by joining us for a CPR training day at the James Paget.

Following the success of previous events, our hospital foyer will again be the venue for a drop-in Bystander CPR event next Friday, 14 February.

This is your opportunity to learn potentially life-saving skills – with the training free of charge and open to all ages.

Between 9am and 5pm on Friday 14 our expert tutors – including emergency consultants, cardiac nurse specialists and Resuscitation Service practitioners – will be on hand to teach you the basics of Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation to help give you the confidence to use the skills in the event of an emergency.

The session is being organised by Dr Emily Russell, Consultant in Acute Medicine, and she and her colleagues will guide you through learning simple resuscitation skills, which could one day save a life.  You’ll be able to ‘have a go‘ with resuscitation equipment and throughout the process you will learn more about the techniques and interventions that could make all the difference until emergency personnel arrive at the scene.

Children and adults of all ages are welcome and there’s no need to book – simply come along to the main hospital foyer at any point between 9am and 5pm next Friday, 14 February.

Dr Russell says; “Simply having bystander CPR can quadruple a person’s chances of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest but currently only 40% of people in these circumstances receive it.  Bystander CPR really does save lives.
“No prior experience is necessary - only a willingness to learn. You can be a complete beginner or someone looking for a refresher – either way you will learn new skills and will gain confidence in your abilities.”

Our hospital team will be providing the training in conjunction with Heart 2 Heart Norfolk, a local charity which aims to save lives by providing defibrillators in accessible locations and by encouraging people to undertake training in bystander CPR techniques.
