Governors represent their members' and local people's views when important decisions are taken about services or the future direction of the hospital, having a greater say in how services are run.
They provide constructive challenge to the Trust to help to continually improve health services for local people, participate in setting the Trust's objectives, and for some, taking part in the interview panels to recruit the Chair, Non Executive Directors and external auditors.

The next elections for a three year term of office were due between April-July 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, these had to be put on hold. Elections are now going to be held from 29 June-24 August for a one year term of office only. Further elections will be held in 2021 for a three year term of office.
