Emergency Department entrance changes as work continues

27 October 2020

As the project to expand our Emergency Department gets underway, the existing ambulance and public entrances to A&E will be closed from 7am tomorrow, Wednesday 28 October.

Signage will be put in place to direct anyone attending to the new entrances – for the public this will be via our main entrance.

This is part of work that will see part of the hospital’s front façade extended towards the main car park and re-built, to provide more space for those waiting to be seen and for our team to assess patients.

ED Work 1

The 10 minute patient drop off zone near the hospital entrance is currently closed and will remain so for the next 11-15 weeks while work is carried out. Users are asked to use Car Park A as an alternative, where parking is free of charge for 30 minutes.

Once complete the new building will include 14 cubicles for the assessment and treatment of patients attending with more serious conditions, a larger waiting room to provide a more comfortable environment with space for social distancing, more space for patient triage, a separate children’s waiting room and an ambulance cohort area to support ambulance turnarounds

Work is scheduled for completion by 31 December, to help provide additional space and capacity over the busy winter period.

Please also note that car park B is currently closed to the public – please use car park F, at the front of the hospital on the Louise Hamilton Centre side, if car park A is full.
