Christmas Day swim to raise money for our charity

08 December 2021

If you’d like to join this year’s Lowestoft Christmas Day swim you can register now to take part and support a range of local charities including our Hospital Charity.

Sponsored by JME, the swim is organised and supported by SLT Group, HM Coastguard, The Lowestoft Volunteer Lifeguard Corps, The Lowestoft Lions, St John Ambulance, and RNLI.

This year is the 43rd annual swim and the organising team are encouraging swimmers and spectators to take part to make this year’s event a success after last year’s cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Those participating in this well established Christmas Day event are invited to attend in fancy dress and all funds raised from the swim are shared equally amongst the chosen local charities and causes.

We’re delighted that the James Paget Hospital Charity will be one of the beneficiaries this year, joining charities including Changing Lives / Making Memories (SLT split representative), Lowestoft Lions, Lowestoft Lifeguard Volunteer Corp and St Johns Ambulance (local branch) in those receiving funds.

Maxine Taylor, Charity Co-ordinator for the James Paget Hospital said; "I would like to thank Matt and the team at SLT for their consideration of the James Paget Hospital Charity this year. It will mean a lot to our team that the local community has once again got behind them and supported them it what has been a very difficult year."

Claire Henwood, Chief Executive of SLT Group said “I am really proud at the work the volunteer team behind the swim do and create a great spectacle for the town. 100% of the money raised goes to the well-deserved local charities. This year being the swims 43rd, we are encouraging swimmers and spectators to donate generously to ensure we smash our target.”

Matt Stebbings, Event Volunteer at SLT Group said “Each year we raise the bar on our target and this year should not be any different. We made the decision to cancel last year and rightly so. This year, we want people to once enjoy a fun family tradition, albeit carefully and safely. The swim is part of many families local traditions and we want local people to once again get behind, dig deep and say thank you to our frontline NHS workers, based at the JPUH.”
