Maternity lateral flow testing

26 March 2021

Over the past few weeks we’ve been encouraging mums-to-be and their partners attending antenatal clinics and ultrasound appointments to have a lateral flow test just before their appointment to test for Covid-19.

These tests have been carried out in the Burrage Centre, on our hospital site, but from Monday, 29 March, there will some slight changes to how we provide these, with patients being invited to have the optional lateral flow test at the drive through clinic, in the white tents in the car park at the front and south side corner of the hospital, instead.

Patients will still need to attend 45 minutes prior to their appointment. A partner/support person of your choice will also be offered the test and it is helpful if you can share their details with the receptionist who makes the appointment with you. Following the test, you will be asked to drive to a parking space to await your results.

The results will be telephoned directly to you. Should you or your partner/support person test positive a midwife will contact you to discuss the options.

We do recommend that you have the test, as this assists us with your care and the safety of other patients and staff. If you normally travel by bus, an appointment will be made for you to attend a clinic separate to the Antenatal clinic. Thank you for your support with this service.
