Dementia Befrienders volunteers wanted

27 October 2021

Our Dementia team are looking for special individuals who would be interested in joining our amazing Dementia Befriender volunteers here at the James Paget.

We would particularly love to welcome more men to the team!

Do you enjoy chatting, reading, listening?  Maybe you are good at crafts, puzzles, or jigsaws?

While not involved in personal care, you will support patients with their meals and provide a friendly presence.  You will receive training and ongoing support from the Trust and Dementia Team to develop your knowledge and understanding of dementia and the different effects patients may experience.

You would have an opportunity to meet our current Befrienders to hear their experiences and it will enable you to gain experience and confidence when seeking further employment or career opportunities.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with Trust Policy.

If this is something you would love to consider, please give the dementia team or volunteer coordinator a call to arrange an informal chat about the roles and responsibilities. Please call Ali Thayne, Dementia Care Lead, on 01493 453735, or John Gilligan, Volunteer Coordinator, on 01493 453546, (pictured).
