Six of our Neonatal team will be taking part in a 5K with a difference next month to fund equipment for new mums and babies on the Unit.
The six, joined by the two children of one of the members of staff, will compete in the Inflatable 5K being held at the Norfolk Showground on Saturday 7 May. The team aim to raise £500 to fund two breast pumps for the Neonatal Unit at the James Paget so these can be loaned out to families when they are separated from their newborn babies that are poorly or born too soon.
The Neonatal Unit team support mothers to initiate close relationships and feeding as soon as possible after birth and those who provide breastmilk for their premature babies are ensuring they receive milk which is uniquely formulated for pre-term development. New mums are likely to need to continue regular pumping once they are discharged from hospital and having pumps to loan to families will help them to provide food for their babies without the added expense of buying a pump.
