The James Paget University Hospital is urging people not to visit if they are suffering from cold/flu-like symptoms - to help protect patients.
Seasonal illnesses - including the flu - are spreading in the community. Flu is highly infectious - and can be extremely dangerous to vulnerable patients.
As such, people planning to come to the hospital to visit are urged to stay away if they have flu symptoms.
As an added precaution, all visitors will be asked to wear a surgical face mask anywhere on the hospital premises; previously, masks were only needed in clinical areas such as wards.
The best protection against the flu is the flu vaccination, which is available for free to eligible groups including people who are aged 50 and over; are pregnant; are in long-stay residential care; are carers or live with someone who has a weakened immune system. The flu vaccination is available at GP surgeries and some pharmacies.
