A cheque for £3,600 has been handed over to our Breast Care Unit by a patient who received treatment for breast cancer at our hospital.
Rachel Holman wanted to support the unit after receiving care from the team, including Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon Professor Jerome Pereira, and raised the money through fundraising in the community, including raffles and cupcake sales at two events she and her family and friends organised - a ‘bling your bra’ gathering and an 80s night.
This donation is also in conjunction with another £200 gift that was made by Johnsons Controls, after they also held a raffle on Rachel’s behalf, and forms part of wider fundraising that will provide ongoing support to the team.
Rachel wanted to help educate clinical staff in this field and chose to make a donation to the Breast Services Endowment Fund, to support training of breast care staff and the wider team, to allow them to continue to develop their skills.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Rachel and all of those involved in this fundraising, including those who bought raffle tickets and the businesses who are supporting these efforts.
