World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

23 November 2022

Some of our Infection Prevention and Control team - seven people, five men and two women, including nurses, doctors and one of our pharmacy team - stand in front of the display in our chapel. One of the women - a nurse - holds a poster which says 'Remember antibiotics won't help your defences against a cold'.

This week is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and ourInfection Prevention and Control team have a stand outside our hospital chapel to highlight some of this year’s key themes.

They are raising awareness of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), which occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.

To find out more you might like to watch this video featuring Dr Chris Van Tulleken below or, if you’re visiting our hospital in the next few days, you can take a look at the stand, which is outside the chapel, just along from the main lifts.
