Hundreds of pounds have been raised for the James Paget Hospital Charity’s Robot Appeal after four of our team completed a 200km cycle ride on Saturday, 8 April.
Three of our surgeons – Carl Philpott, Vamsi Velchuru and Christopher Liao – were joined by James Paget Divisional Operations Director Jonathan Harrowven on the ‘Double Dutch, Infinity Beckons’ cycling event which started in Huntingdon and toured the countryside between March, Kings Lynn and Spalding before returning to the start – a total of over 204km or 126 miles.
All four completed the cycle ride well within the 13-and-a-half hours allowed – taking eight hours and 34 minutes to cover the ride distance.
Chris Liao said it had all gone well. “It was a lovely sunny day with not much wind at all - making it a fantastic day to be out in our saddle riding for such a wonderful cause.”
Between them, the team have already raised well over £1,000 through the ride for our Robot Appeal but there’s still time to support them.
Our charity is currently looking to raise £1.6million to fund a new surgical robot which will allow complex surgeries to be performed, by our surgeons, with more precision and through smaller incisions, using enhanced three dimensional vision. The robot will be used across specialties including colorectal surgery, gynaecology, general surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, urology and ears, nose and throat and is expected to have benefits for patients including reducing the length of stay in hospital and reducing post-operative complications.
