New Cove ambulatory unit opens

19 April 2023

A group of James Paget staff - many of them nurses in children's clinic tunics stand in a semi-circle in the new area. In the foreground a young boy - Jack - stands holding a pair of scissors preparing to cut a ribbon to mark the opening. One of our senior nurses, in her children's clinic tunic, holds the ribbon steady for him to cut.

Our paediatric team have this week opened a new ‘ambulatory’ unit, which will make visits to hospital easier for some of our young patients.

The unit is situated in the Cove children’s clinic - and provides a comfortable, relaxing environment where children can receive a range of treatments including infusions, transfusions and dressings.

Its opening means that young patients may be able to attend here rather than the busy main children’s ward in the hospital for their treatments

Cutting the ribbon to officially open the new room was seven-year-old Jack Blyth, who will continue his treatment for a very rare blood disorder by attending the unit for regular blood transfusions.
