From time to time our hospital is the venue for a wedding.
This could be when a patient is nearing the end of their life and they wish to formalise a long-standing partnership or it can be a spur of the moment decision to marry or to celebrate a marriage with a blessing.
On these occasions our ward staff aim to quickly go above and beyond to make the event as special as possible – sometimes buying decorations out of their own pockets in order to make arrangements at short notice.
Now this will all be made a little easier thanks to a number of local businesses and organisations who have donated items for a special ‘Wedding Box’ that can be used by our team when required.
Maxine Taylor, our Charity Manager, was asked by our Corporate Lead Nurse Tracie Bitters - both pictured above with Corporate Matron Joana Dias - if she could help in getting an emergency wedding box together to help in situations where items were required. As Maxine is also a Wedding Registrar she has a number contacts and was able to get some items that would brighten up the room.
The box contains a number of things – including lace coverings, a bouquet, wipeable flowers and decorations, faux tealights, and small keepsakes like the angel charm pictured below.
These will be able to be used straight away by any team at the hospital who want to put on a celebration for a couple on their ward and will hopefully help staff create a more pleasant environment for a wedding or blessing.
We’d like to thank Charlotte Staff Flowers of Caister who kindly donated the gorgeous Ivory bouquet; Belles and Beaus Wedding Hire in Rollesby; Jan Leeder who kindly donated the lace bed covers, ivy garlands and pots of flowers; Lisa Hutchinson and Tia’s Treasures who handmade the angels for our brides; and Donna Titcombe, Burgh Hall and bride and groom Carolyn and Ryan Ling who donated the pink flowers, button holes and posies.
