Paediatric Research team celebrate award win

14 July 2023

Our Paediatric Research team are celebrating after winning the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) East of England Celebration Award 2023 for 'Breaking Boundaries'.

The CRN East of England Celebration Awards 2023 ceremony was held on Wednesday, 12 July, at St Andrew's Hall in Norwich. The awards aim to shine a light on the incredible work that has been happening over the past year to deliver research around the East of England region.

Nominations were invited in a number of categories with our team selected as finalists in the ‘Breaking Boundaries’ award. This showcases those that have shown initiative in collaborative working across teams and organisations to improve efficiency and patient experience.

The James Paget Paediatric Research team were judged as winners by the panel after a nomination which highlighted how the team played a key role in two ground-breaking research studies.

The nomination read; “Paediatric research at the James Paget University Hospital has gone from strength to strength and this is all down to a committed and dedicated team. They have broken lots of boundaries over the last few years, including playing a key role in a European trial aimed at countering life-threatening peanut allergies in children, and from the results of this, being one of the first sites in the UK to offer a newly approved drug.

“More recently the team were featured on television to promote Harmonie, the vaccine study for RSV prevention in babies. The team continually strives to find innovative ways of engaging and collaborating with patients and the public.”

The award was presented to three of the team – Donna, Lynsey and Sarah - by 2022 Breaking Boundaries award winner, Dr Serge Engamba, CRN East of England Primary Care co-Specialty Lead and GP at OneNorwich Practices.

Paediatric Research Nurses Donna and Lynsey and Research Management Coordinator Sarah accepted the award on behalf of the team, which is led by Consultant Paediatrician, and Principal Investigator for both studies, Dr John Chapman.
