Over £1,000 has been handed over to our Sandra Chapman Centre by long-time fundraiser Janet Ellis following her 80th birthday celebration where she asked for donations rather than presents.
Janet and Zoiyar Cole, who together have raised over £366,000 for local charities and good causes, including the Louise Hamilton Centre and the Sandra Chapman Centre, visited our hospital last week to present staff at the Centre with another cheque, this time for £1020.25 – a combination of £725.25 raised through birthday donations and £295 that had previously been collected.
The money will be put towards equipment – such as clinic trolleys or specialist chairs - for the Sandra Chapman Centre, which provides care and support to patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions, including blood disorders and cancers.
Janet said; “I appreciate immensely what the NHS did for me especially the wonderful treatment I had from the Sandra Chapman ward from the receptionist and nursing staff. I owe my life to them and Professor Pereira. I’d like to say a big thank you on behalf of myself and my husband Trevor, who is also under the umbrella of the Sandra Chapman Centre.”
Maxine Taylor, our hospital Charity Manager, said thank you to Janet and Zoiyar for all their support.
“This generous gift from Janet, who collected donations for her 80th birthday rather than receiving presents from family and friends, will go to help patients receiving treatment at the centre. Janet and Zoiyar’s contribution to local good causes over the past 23 years has been amazing. They should be proud of all their work and we are very grateful to them and everyone who has supported their fundraising.”
