Some of our breast care team visited Northern Ireland last month to attend the annual Association of Breast Surgery Conference, with two of our surgeons among those playing key roles in the national Association.
James Paget breast surgeons Professor Jerome Pereira, Mrs Sarah Downey, Associate Professor Sue Down and Mr Alexander (Sandy) Leeper attended the two day event in Belfast, along with Breast Care Nurses Samantha Glee and Jill Swan, Clinical Fellows Rasheed Elayyan and Ibrahim Sallam, and Physician Associate Laura Smith.
Mrs Downey has now taken up the role of Vice President of the Association, with Professor Down continuing her role as Chair of the National Education and Training Committee.
The two full days of lectures gave the team the opportunity to hear research updates and more about the latest developments in the field and to share information with, and gain knowledge from, other experts.
The conference also included an exhibition highlighting new products and services, giving the team the chance to meet new and existing suppliers and to talk with other professionals.
Jill Swan said; “It was a good opportunity to reflect on and share practice and to meet up with breast surgeons, breast care nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in breast care nationally.
“Our international fellows Rasheed and Ibrahim shared and presented our Unit’s work via poster presentations and we shared our experiences with Magtrace – a tracer aid for breast cancer surgery – and surgical techniques and Patient Reported Outcome Measures.”
A dinner dance was also held between the two days – and this was held in the Titanic Belfast.
