Gorleston Golf Club boost for Sandra Chapman Centre

02 March 2023

We’d like to thank everyone at Gorleston Golf Club after a £500 donation was made to our Sandra Chapman Centre.

John Maddock and Maxine Taylor, our charity manager, stand with a group of Sandra Chapman Centre nurses and health care staff in uniform in the Centre garden area. Maxine, John and one of the team hold a large cheque, written out for £500, between them. A wooden bench and green plants and bushes are visible behind them.

John Maddock, Golf Manager at the Club, visited our hospital on Tuesday to hand over the money to the Sandra Chapman team, and this donation means the Centre now has enough for ten treatment chairs for patients.

Each year the Club stages a charity golf day competition to win the Maddock Tankard. This was established by John’s late father Dan and mother Gillian, and John is continuing the tradition, with proceeds going to the Sandra Chapman Centre, who looked after both of his parents.

John said; “Both my parents went through the ward and received excellent care. The charity day was Dad’s idea and we raise funds through the entry fee for the event and a raffle. More than 80 members from the club took part in the most recent fundraising day and we’re pleased to be able to hand over £500 to the Centre team.”

The generous donation means the Centre now has ten specialist patient treatment chairs funded by donations. The chairs, which recline, lift up and can go instantly into a flat position if required, provide a more comfortable place to receive chemotherapy and other treatments.  The chairs have a built-in table for patients to have a drink or to use for activities while receiving treatment and they can move to a more vertical position which helps patients to get up too.

Thank you to everyone at Gorleston Golf Club who supported this fundraising.
