International Day of the Midwife

05 May 2023

Our delivery suite team are pictured in the suite holding a cake. There are eight women in the photograph, in various different uniforms including senior midwives, some in blue and green scrubs and two in reception/ admin tunics. Two kneel with six standing behind them and two in the middle holding the cake which is covered in blue icing. Three blue shiny balloons - the letter I, D and M - for International Day of the Midwife - are behind them.

Today is the International Day of the Midwife – an opportunity to honour and celebrate what can be achieved when someone who is pregnant receives quality care from a trusted midwife.

And…Did you know? When a midwife cares for you, you are:

• More likely to have a vaginal birth

• Less likely to have a premature birth

• More likely to have a positive postpartum experience

Our Delivery Suite team are celebrating with cakes and goodie bags made especially to thank them for their contribution and all their hard work.

Some of the brown paper goodie bags lined up. Each has IDM, a heart and thank you written on in red writing.   A box of 12 celebratory cupcakes, each decorated differently. Four in the middle row are white icing with black letters - IDM - on. Two have pale pink swirl icing with a thank you topper, also have cream icing with a face mask topper, orange icing with a star pattern and red icing with a white babies feet design.

A graphic on a mid blue background which says 'It's the International Day of the Midwife!' The graphic includes the date - 5 May 2023 - a hand and globe design and the hashtag #IDM2023
