Assistant Practitioner wins Student of Year title

01 November 2023

A James Paget Therapy Assistant Practitioner has been named as Norwich City College’s Higher Education (HE) Student of the Year after she graduated with a Foundation Degree in Health Studies.

Claire Lewis was funded to complete the degree while she was working in the Orthopaedic Therapy team at the James Paget and completed her studies while carrying out her role as an Assistant Practitioner.

In recognising Claire as HE Student of the Year, the college highlighted her modest and thoughtful approach.

“From day one Claire has stood out, for all the right reasons. She is a happy, bright and charismatic person who worked hard throughout her time on the course and was very organised and efficient with all the paperwork associated with the apprenticeship that she was studying alongside the degree. This allowed Claire to focus on her learning, consistently scoring extremely high marks during her studies.

“She shared experiences from her workplace, but always showed professional behaviours and ensured that no confidentiality was breached, and no individuals could be identified. This meant that real life experiences could be explored and reflected upon, thus enriching and supporting development for everyone as professional health care practitioners. Additionally, Claire brought an insight to the discussions that often really brought the subjects to life.”

Her mentor for the course said; “Claire has been very hard working and professional throughout her degree. She has shown incredible and applaudable consistency in maintaining her work, college and life balance, always giving her best whenever she has been at work. We are incredibly proud of Claire’s achievement during her degree.”
