Concept Ward wins prestigious award

02 November 2023

Our new Concept Ward has received a top accolade at an annual awards ceremony celebrating the best in healthcare construction.

The Concept Ward opened earlier this year, providing both our patients and staff with a glimpse of how care will be delivered on the wards of the future.

It features an innovative mix of single en-suite rooms and two four-bedded bays, and is a key element of our estates masterplan to create a new health care campus including a new hospital by 2030.

Our staff had an input into the design of the ward, which was constructed by Health Spaces using a modern method of construction with modular units constructed offsite, to save time and reduce disruption at the hospital.

At yesterday’s 2023 Building Better Healthcare Awards held in London, the Concept Ward took the honours in the Best Modular/Mobile Healthcare Facility category, beating off competition from 10 other projects nationwide.

Our photos show Chief Nurse Paul Morris and Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities Steven Balls, who were instrumental in the delivery of the project,  with members of the Health Spaces team - as well as some images of the Concept Ward itself.

The ceiling is white panels and the flooring is a neutral colour and the corridor extends into the distance, with floor-to-ceiling length windows at the far end.
