Younger and older patients at our hospital are set to benefit after two kind donations from a local man.
Derek Ward, who is secretary of Lowestoft Lions Club, has long been involved in donations to our hospital through the club, but after his wife Gloria passed away recently he decided to make two personal contributions to support patients.
Gloria had been a youth worker and he wanted to show support for children and young people in her memory. Derek purchased a TV DVD player for our Eye Clinic children’s waiting area, so young people awaiting tests or procedures can view or hear DVDs and CDs while they wait.
He has also come to the aid of our surgical outpatients team. Our Charity Manager Maxine Taylor had contacted the Lions after a request from the team for a wheelchair to assist with transporting patients between clinics. Derek decided to donate a wheelchair he and his family had to the team for their use.
On Tuesday Derek visited our hospital to formally hand over both items.
Maxine said they would support many future visitors to the hospital. “It’s really kind of you to think of our patients and to make donations in Gloria’s memory. Young people in our Eye Clinic will now have some entertainment while they are waiting and our outpatients team will be able to transport patients more easily, and both will enhance patient experience. Thank you for your generosity.”
