Maternity teaching day held

28 November 2023

Maternity Training Day - two members of staff are pictured with a baby mannequin on a table. The two men stand on either side of the image - one has a stethoscope in his ears, the other appears to have a resuscitation bag in his hand.

Our Maternity team recently held a teaching day to bring colleagues across the department together to learn new skills and techniques.

The PROMPT (PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training), held on Tuesday 14 November, saw consultant obstetricians, doctors, midwives, Maternity Support Workers, nurses, Anaethetists, theatre practitioners and student midwives all come together to learn about a range of topics linked to maternity safety.

The training is an annual requirement and it provides an opportunity for multi-skilled professionals to work together to enhance their knowledge.

Subjects covered included obstetric emergencies, the human factors involved in care and learning from issues that have been highlighted locally.

The teaching is evidence based, practical and hands on, giving staff at all levels the chance to experience and learn from different scenarios, and the sessions were held in our on-site Education and Training Centre, facilitated by our Practice Development team and PROMPT faculty.

A group of staff stand in a group looking at a piece of paper, which is being held by a woman. Seven members of staff are visible in the group and there is a flip-chart board behind them.

Three women stand over a baby mannequin that is in a perspex box, simulating an incubator. The women stand on three sides, one holds a a mask and bag over the mannequins face and the other two appear to be examining the baby.
