Staff from the James Paget will be taking part in The Norfolk Marathon on Sunday, 28 April, to raise funds for our surgical Robot Appeal.
A number of our team have signed up for the marathon, which will start and end in Cromer on Sunday, either to run the race or to volunteer as marshalls, and members of the group are carrying out fundraising to help towards our £1.6million appeal to purchase a surgical robot for use at our hospital.
Among those running will be Kamal Aryal, a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the James Paget, who will be running his first full marathon after completing the Blickling half-marathon last year.
Kamal says; “To improve our services further we need a surgical robot. This provides greater precision, better three-dimensional views and greater degrees of instrument tip movement during surgery. The benefits are greater than laparoscopic surgery which I use at present. The recovery is quicker and complications are less. For cancers there is less risk of recurrence and survival is longer. With the robot many of our patients will be able to receive their surgery at the Paget, closer to home, without having to travel further away.”
The 26.2 mile marathon route will see runners head from Cromer towards North Walsham, taking in Northrepps and Southrepps, before heading out towards Mundesley via Bradfield and Trunch, and looping back to Cromer.
