Patients have rated James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s inpatient services positively, as shown through a survey of people who received care last year conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Over 500 eligible patients responded to the CQC’s Adult Inpatient Survey, and the results demonstrate consistency in the care provided through the James Paget’s inpatient services to previous years, as well as considerable improvement in some areas.
The survey outcomes show that the James Paget performs better than others in the way that staff discussed equipment or support that people may need after their procedure, or any changes required around the home after leaving hospital. The Trust’s food was also rated highly in comparison to other hospitals.
In addition, the hospital performed notably well in the explanation provided to patients that were moved between wards overnight, and the opportunities provided to everyone to comment on the quality of care they received during their stay at the hospital.
Paul Morris, Chief Nurse at the James Paget, said: “It is very encouraging to see our patients respond positively when asked about aspects of care provided through our inpatient services. We pride ourselves on compassion and communication between our staff, patients, and their families, and I’m pleased that these elements have been highlighted in the CQC’s survey.”
“We know we must always aim to improve the care we provide, and we have a plan to continue to put the needs of patients at the heart of the care we provide, and act on what they tell us.”
The survey also reported that patients’ views on waiting times for inpatient procedures had worsened since the previous survey results. James Paget Hospital continues to work with hospital and health and care partners in Norfolk and Waveney to reduce waiting times for elective procedures.
