Visitors to Potters Resort at Hopton-on-Sea have made over 1,200 sets of bonding squares for mothers and babies in our Neonatal Unit.
Last Thursday staff from Potters brought boxes full of the squares to handover to our team. The squares were created as part of Potters ‘Knit and Natter’ Project which started as an activity for guests on site.
Ian Wall, Group Activities Coordinator for Potters Resorts, said they had been overwhelmed by the support shown, with guests continuing to make items once they had returned home.
“Thanks to the kindness and creativity of our guests we are able to donate more than 1,200 pairs of bonding squares, and some knitted teddies, to the James Paget Neonatal team and we are delighted to hand these over as we conclude this Project. We’d like to thank everyone who contributed.”
The bonding squares, which are knitted in matching pairs, were received by Special Care Baby Unit nurse Grace Pettigrew.
Karen Wright, Neonatal Senior Sister, said; “One square is placed with the baby in an incubator and another worn against mum's skin. The squares are then swapped around to help with bonding the baby and the mum. This is a really kind donation by Potters and the knitters who took part and we know they will be appreciated by our new mums.”
We have several teams of knitters who regularly donate to the hospital, and limited storage space, so we often need to pause donations following a large delivery such as this. If you might be interested in helping with knitting in future please can we ask that you email Charity@jpaget.nhs.uk who can advise if anything is required – thank you.
