Volunteer drivers - can you help?

08 August 2024

We’re looking for volunteers to help support our new Volunteer Driver and Settle at Home Service, which is helping patients get home quicker following their hospital stay.

Officially launched in June, around ten volunteers are currently offering their time to the service, but our team would be keen to hear from anyone over the age of 21 who holds a full clean driver’s licence who might be interested in finding out more.

A fully insured vehicle will be provided to transport patients.

Volunteer drivers help transfer independently mobile patients home following a hospital stay. The team provide a service in specific circumstances, including where patients are relatively mobile and there is no friend or family member immediately available to assist.

It is hoped the service will assist people to get home sooner, enhancing patient experience, providing a little support to those who may need minimal assistance when they arrive home, and helping with patient flow through the hospital.

Could you make a difference and be a friendly face to get them home? You could help us by providing a few day time or evening hours each month.

If you might be interested and would like to find out more please contact our Volunteer Driver Coordinator Victoria Allen by emailing Victoria.Allen@jpaget.nhs.uk or calling 01493 453683.
