Young patients visiting The Cove – our children’s clinic – have a new selection of games to enjoy following a kind donation from a local man in memory of his wife.
Derek Ward has donated items including two Nintendo games consoles and a selection of board games, as well as games for the machines, after collecting more than £600 in donations in lieu of flowers for his wife Gloria who passed away last year.
Derek has made many generous donations to our hospital both in memory of Gloria, who was a Senior Youth Worker at Colville House Youth Club in Lowestoft, and through his role as secretary of Lowestoft Lions Club.
The latest donations mean young people will be able to play the games while undergoing treatments – bringing particular benefits for those who have to spend time in the clinic on a regular basis.
James Paget Charity Manager Maxine Taylor said; “We’d like to thank Derek for thinking of our young patients visiting The Cove. This is a lovely way to honour Gloria’s memory – helping children just as she did in her role as a youth worker – and the donation will mean so much to young people who have to undergo treatments in the clinic. We’d like to thank Derek and everyone who contributed to the collection in lieu of flowers.”
