Happy Healthy Holidays signposts to summer services

26 July 2024

Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System (ICS), which includes the James Paget, is encouraging residents and visitors to the area to look after their health this summer so they can enjoy a happy healthy holiday.

The ICS website includes lots more information about what you can do to keep well this summer as well as more details about finding the right service if you need medical assistance or mental health support.

In addition to signposting to the NHS 111 service – available by dialling 111 from any phone or online at https://111.nhs.uk/ - and other services, such as pharmacies, where appropriate, there’s advice to help you with many common summer ailments.

It includes tips on keeping cool in hot weather – such as keeping hydrated and encouraging older relatives to do the same, and putting a frozen bottle of water in front of a fan to help cool the air around you – and encourages you to keep a supply of medicines such as paracetamol, antihistamines and bite/ sting and rash creams available to manage minor issues that may affect your summer.

Medicines and advice on a range of health related queries are available from your local pharmacy. You may have heard of Pharmacy First – this is where your local pharmacist can offer treatment and some prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP.  You can find out more here; https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/pharmacies/how-pharmacies-can-help/

The Happy Healthy Holiday campaign is being supported by Norfolk County Council’s Public Health team and Visit Norfolk who are keen for visitors to stay healthy while on day trips and holidays to the area.

With over 50 million people expected to visit Norfolk alone over the summer, it’s important that everyone knows where to turn for help.
