James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has officially received a new mural artwork from Great Yarmouth-based arts organisation Reprezent Project.
The mural, measuring over 3 metres in width and 2.5 metres high, depicts staff and locations from the hospital, as well as local landmarks in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and has been installed to celebrate the Hospital’s recent 40-year anniversary and new Trust Values.
Kevin Parker, a Norfolk-based artist from the Reprezent Project, created the work using marker pen and paint, incorporating the words Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment and Support – the hospital’s Values, defined after input from staff and patients in 2023.
Nigel Kee, Chief Operating Officer at the James Paget, officially received the new mural on behalf of the hospital on Friday 15 March after it was installed at the end of February. Nigel said: “We are delighted to have worked with Reprezent to commemorate our hospital in this fantastic artwork, that highlights both our values, and our staff.
“We wanted to work with Reprezent because of the creative work they have led across Great Yarmouth, and how they help connect local institutions with communities – and having the mural in our main entrance to welcome people as they arrive is a great way of doing that.”
Ruben Cruz from the Reprezent Project said: “It has been a privilege to work with the James Paget on this artwork, which we hope captures the special bond that exists between the hospital and local communities.”
The project was supported by the James Paget Hospital Charity and the James Paget Arts Committee, and will be relocated when a new hospital is built on the James Paget site in the future.
