Our team have been marking Dementia Action Week – from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 May – with a variety of activities including awareness stands and a tea party.
All this week there have been stands outside our hospital chapel - along with a Mental Health Awareness Week one too - and in the Louise Hamilton Centre to provide more information about dementia and the week has been supported by our staff and volunteers – including our Safeguarding, Wellbeing, Louise Hamilton and Dementia Befrienders teams – and representatives from organisations including Alzheimer’s Society and Admiral Nurses.
Our Ward 12 team have also supported the week, holding a special tea party featuring strawberry cream scones for patients on our older people’s medicine ward.
Around 900,000 people in the UK are living with dementia and diagnosis is crucial to giving individuals the care, treatment and support they need. It’s thought 1 in 3 people with dementia do not have a diagnosis. If you are worried about yourself, or someone close to you, the Alzheimer’s Society symptom checklist may help.
