01 May 2024

We’re holding two Volunteer Awareness Sessions, one this Friday, 3 May, and one next Friday, 10 May, and if you might be interested in finding out more about volunteering at our hospital you’re invited along to talk to our team.

The session this Friday, 3 May, will be held between 10am and 12noon in the Lecture Theatre of the Burrage Centre, at the back of our hospital site.

Next Friday, 10 May, the session will be held between 10am and 12noon in the Breydon Room, in our Education & Training Centre, also towards the back of our site.

You are welcome to drop in to either session to have a chat and enquire about volunteering, and to find out more about the opportunities available.

We’re currently particularly looking for volunteers for our new Driver and Settle at Home Service.

The new service will support patients who are being discharged from hospital, helping with transporting patients or equipment back to their homes as a Volunteer Driver and/ or being a friendly face to get them settled back in as part of the Settle at Home Service.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver you will need to be over the age of 21 and hold a full clean driver’s licence, but a fully insured vehicle will be provided.

We are also looking to expand our existing team of volunteers, particularly general volunteers, who help to support patients and staff in clinical and non-clinical areas and our main reception; Butterfly volunteers who help to support our patients who are at end of life, their families and their loved ones; and mealtime volunteers, who help our patients who require additional assistance during mealtimes.

If you might be interested in any of these roles and would like further information, please come along to one of the Friday sessions or contact our Volunteer Coordinators Victoria Allen or John Gilligan - Victoria.Allen@jpaget.nhs.uk telephone 01493 453683 or John.Gilligan@jpaget.nhs.uk telephone 01493 453546.
