Some of the regular visitors to our Louise Hamilton Centre had a special treat this week as part of a ‘warm and well’ session led by East Suffolk Council.
Suffolk Centres for Warmth Project Manager Caroline Mackinson and Support Officer Tracy Cotterell, both from East Suffolk Council, visited the Centre, on our hospital site, on Monday, 18 November, to talk about tips for keeping warm over the winter period and to share some slow cooker recipes.
As part of the morning, those attending the session – among them people with life-limiting illnesses and those who have been bereaved – were able to sample a pasta dish and a chocolate pudding that had been slow-cooked.
And, as a special bonus, those at the session who do not already have a slow cooker will each receive one of the devices to support healthy eating over winter, and a carbon monoxide detector, to help keep their homes safe during colder weather.
The project has been funded by Cadent Gas Ltd – the British regional gas distribution company which serves homes and businesses across East Anglia and beyond.
Caroline said; “The aim of the session is to offer advice on how to stay safe and warm, with the slow cooker session providing the opportunity to learn about how easy, healthy, safe and cheap this method of cooking can be, as well as giving the chance to taste test. We’ve tried to make the session as fun and accessible as possible, with lots of tips for saving money and reducing waste too.”
Sue Francis, Louise Hamilton Centre Manager, said; “We collaborate with a number of partner groups, charities and agencies to provide a range of support services and we’re pleased to welcome East Suffolk Council along for today’s session, which has been both well attended and well received.”
