Toys donated after Scafell Pike climb

11 September 2024

Jason is pictured handing over all of the toys to Maxine and Paul from our charity. The three are pictured in the hospital's front car park in front of a signwritten Bateman Groundworks van. Paul in crouching down at the back of the van holding a Nintendo Switch in a box, whicle Maxine and Paul stand either side of him holding more of the items donated. A large cage is alongside them containing bags full of the toys and games - a blue Smyths Toy Superstore bag is on top of the pile.

A huge quantity of toys and games have been handed over for young patients receiving treatment at the James Paget after a team of seven successfully scaled England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike, in July.

Jason, Zak, Mark, Will, Jamie, Matty and Daniel climbed to the top of Scafell, in the Lake District, and managed to raise over £1,700 to provide toys, games and other items to support children and young people and enhance their stay with us.

The toys will now be distributed to various ward and departments that children and young people visit to receive treatment, meaning that this donation will help many of our younger patients if they come in for a clinic or if they have to stay for longer.

The haul of toys was generously boosted by Smyths Toys Superstores in Norwich, where the funds raised were spent purchasing board games, Nintendo Switch consoles, Hot Wheels, and an assortment of other toys for all ages.

Bateman Groundworks, where Jason works, kindly provided transportation for the team and the toys and we’d like to thank them for supporting Jason and the team on this and other fundraising events.

Maxine Taylor, James Paget Charity Manager, said; “These toys and games are set to bring a lot of joy to our younger visitors and we’d like to thank the team who did the climb and all who supported their fundraising. Particular thanks go to Jason for organising and bringing the toys into us. These will now be distributed to ward and clinic areas around the hospital to make sure as many children as possible benefit from your efforts.”
