The past 18 months have been unprecedented in the NHS and our staff have played a key role during the global pandemic. Now we want to recognise some of those teams and individuals who have been truly exceptional in dealing with the challenges they have faced.
Our annual awards ceremony – re-named the Paget’s People Awards – will aim to recognise some of the outstanding contributions by our staff and we need your help to make sure their efforts are celebrated.
We’re looking to highlight staff, teams, apprentices and volunteers who have made a significant difference to patients and provided support to colleagues during one of the most challenging periods in the history of the NHS.
While all our staff have gone above and beyond, we want to acknowledge the best of the best, who have gone even further to offer quality care to those at our hospital and to assist those working with them.
If you’ve been a patient in the James Paget University Hospital over the past 18 months and were particularly impressed with a team or individual we want to hear from you.
If a member of staff made your stay, or a friend or a relatives’ stay, more comfortable by doing something particularly special, or if you received exceptional service during an outpatient appointment and you’d like to see a staff member recognised for their efforts, then this is your opportunity.
Alternatively it could be that you work at the hospital and want to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of a colleague who has gone out of their way to improve patient care or who may have done something particularly supportive to help others.
The Paget’s People Awards will celebrate dedication, innovation, professionalism, courtesy, caring and leadership, with 11 categories where nominations can be made including Ward of the Year, Employee of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Apprentice of the Year and the Inspiration Award.
Among the categories are the EDP Gold ‘Patient Choice’ Award, which is reserved solely for patients, relatives or carers to thank an individual or team who have made a real difference to their or a loved one’s care and, new for 2021, the Partnership Working Award, which will recognise a team or individual who has worked with other organisations to enhance the services we provide.
Two other awards - the Governors’ Award for Outstanding Service and the Chair and Chief Executive Commendation – are made at the discretion of the Governors, Chair and Chief Executive, so these categories are not open for public nominations.
Anna Hills, James Paget Chief Executive, said: “The hard work and dedication of all our staff has been amazing. Collectively as part of the NHS and as an individual hospital we have faced a number of challenges during the pandemic, while individuals and teams have had to adapt to a myriad of changes.
“While all our staff have, like everyone else, had to deal with lockdown restrictions and concerns for their families and friends, they have also had to cope with everything from caring for those critically ill with Covid-19 to providing services in a new way.
“It has been physically and emotionally demanding and this year, through these awards, we want to celebrate our team and all they have done. If you know someone who really deserves an award for their efforts please make a nomination for them.
“While we know that not everyone can win, we want to recognise the teams and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding patient care, support for their colleagues and who have exceeded expectations.”
The award categories are as follows:
- Ward of the Year
- Team of the Year - Clinical
- Team of the Year - Non-Clinical
- Employee of the Year
- Individual of the Year - Clinical
- Individual of the Year - Non-Clinical

The closing date for nominations in the 11 categories open for public voting is Friday 23 July.
