Disabled access

We are committed to ensuring that all our patients receive the equal service and treatment, regardless of disability. Please let us know about your disability so our staff can make adjustments needed to help you.

If you have special needs and are anxious about the facilities available, please telephone the ward before an admission or contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on Great Yarmouth 453240.

A lift is available to access the second floor of the hospital. Click here for a map.

Parking

Registered disabled badge holders displaying a blue badge have access to spaces at the front of the hospital and on the front row of Car Park A. Blue badge holders are not required to pay for parking.

Please present your slips and badges to the Patients' Travel Office or at the Main Reception desk between 5pm and 7pm (Monday to Friday).

Rebecca Crossley, LD Liaison NurseHelp for people with a learning disability

We are fully signed up to the Mencap “Getting it right” charter and are committed to supporting our patients with a learning disability.

We have a Learning Disability Liaison Nurse who works with our staff and patients. Please ask a member of staff at any point during your stay if you would like to contact them.

Help for people with a physical disability

All our wards have notices which help let staff know that you have a visual impairment. If you would like to have one of these above your bed and on your locker, please ask for one. This will help, particularly staff bringing meals and refreshments, to put them in the right place for you to reach.

Toilet facilities for outpatient wheelchair users and visitors are situated in the foyer, adjacent to the chapel, near the pathology department and in some clinic areas. Click for a map. A new 'Changing Places' accessible toilet has been installed in our new toilet block just opposite Marks and Spencer in our main foyer. This provides facilities including a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, a hoist system and a non-slip floor.

Access to the Changing Places toilet requires a 'radar' key which is only issued to those eligible to use them. For more information please visit www.changing-places.org

There is a portable text phone available for patients to use on request. It is held by switchboard staff and can be borrowed by any ward or departmen

If you have support equipment you would like to bring into hospital with you please arrange it with the ward staff. Electrical equipment needs to be checked by our estates department before being used.

Please let staff know if you have hearing difficulties and they will do all they can to assist you. There is a loop system in the main foyer and portable loops are available on some wards and departments.
