Proud of the Paget

An aerial photograph of the James Paget site, which shows the main building in the centre of the image, the front visitor car park and ambulances visible at the bottom of the photo and field and homes behind the hopsital at the top of the image.

The James Paget University Hospital is a vibrant university hospital and an amazing place to work, full of caring and compassionate people going the extra mile to ensure that patients have a truly positive experience of care.

Situated between two popular holiday destinations in east Norfolk and north Suffolk, and with a steadily increasing local population of over 250,000, the James Paget is the largest local employer in the area with over 5000 members of staff.

We play a significant role in the fabric of the local community, not only as a much-loved NHS Trust committed to providing compassionate, high quality care, but as an institution within our area. We are a respected clinical educator and trainer that nurtures and develops its staff, both from local and international populations.

Our supportive environment has grown organically as a result of the people working in our hospital. The Paget is big enough for there to be lots going on, with plenty of choices of career paths and an interesting and satisfying working life whatever position you choose, but it is also small enough that every single member of our team is treated as a person, not just a number. And that is important to us.

We are on a journey towards building a healthier future together: Together with our patients and staff, together with our partners, together with our communities.

Our five year strategy sets out our vision - click here to find out more.

Living hereA compilation of four scenic landscape photos. Top left us a photo of Lowestoft beach, showing a broad sandy beach and little white crested waves. A pier and windturbine are visible in the distance. Top right is another beach soon after sunrise. the seas and sky are blue and there is a groyne stretching from the bottom right of the photo to the centre, across a sandy beach. Bottom right is a countryside scene, with a lake and reeds in the foreground and trees and bushes around the lake visible in the distance. The fourth photo, bottom left shows two yachts in full sail on Oulton Broad. The Maltings - a former malt house converted to apartments - and a blue sky are visible behind the yachts.

The James Paget sits on the Norfolk/Suffolk border between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. The area is stunning with its beautiful countryside, big skies, miles and miles of sandy beaches and unique rural market towns.

The world famous Norfolk Broads, the country’s largest inland waterways network, is on our doorstep and the fine city of Norwich is just a short distance away. Norwich is the area’s top retail destination with a fantastic choice of shops from national chains to independent stores, as well as superb restaurants and streets that are steeped in medieval history.

Close by are coastal resorts like Southwold and Aldeburgh to the south and the gorgeous north Norfolk coast to the north, while Cambridge is within easy reach and London is less than two hours from Norwich by train. Norwich airport has flights to many European destinations with global connections from Amsterdam Schiphol airport’s international hub.

The area is a great place to live, especially for families, and is proud to have one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Property prices here are considerably lower than London and the south east. The school provision at all levels, from nurseries to state and independent schools, throughout the region is excellent, with Norwich boasting two universities, the University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts, while the University of Suffolk is in Ipswich.
