Facilities Management

Facilities Management provides a range of services to the James Paget Hospital and Newberry Clinic.

The Directorate provides a high quality and cost effective services to facilitate the delivery of key services to our patients, staff and visitors.

What services are provided?

Catering Services

Our catering team create hundreds of meals every day to feed our patients, staff and visitors across the hospital.

The team includes qualified chefs who prepare patient menus in conjunction with the Trust’s dietetic department so we can ensure they are nutritionally balanced, provide a choice and cover the dietary needs of our patients.

Domestic Services

Our Domestic Services team operate across the hospital carrying out a range of tasks from ensuring areas around the hospital are cleaned to essential work on our wards.

The team work towards achieving all of the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness, providing a clean and safe environment for our patients and staff.

The combined area the team look after covers 50,483m² - for context, a football pitch is 7,104m² - and the service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Domestic Services has a rapid response team who are on hand to deal with spillages, curtain changes and leaks, and they also deal with deep cleans of clinical areas.

It is also estimated that the team serve over one million cups of tea every year!

Linen Services

Linen & Sewing services provide linen to wards and departments across the hospital, seven days a week, and also provide uniforms for members of staff.

Residential Accommodation

Our Residential Accommodation team look after staff accommodation on our hospital site, including single (shared) accommodation and self-contained married/family accommodation.

Portering & Security

Our Portering and Security team are an essential service across our site, helping to move patients around the building for tests, surgeries and treatments and providing a reassuring and friendly presence.

Porters also move equipment and other goods and support staff and patients around the hospital.

Car Park Management

Our Car Parking team look after public and staff car parks across the site, as well as dealing with parking issues and access for vehicles.

Switchboard Services

The Switchboard team take over 100,000 calls a month including all incoming, outgoing and internal calls, and internal emergency calls, which includes cardiac arrest notifications and emergencies around the site.

The Switchboard team also cover the car park intercom when our car park officers are out on site.

Transport, Waste & Logistics

From ensuring as much waste as possible is recycled to the logistics of running the hospital, this team work to maintain essential behind-the-scenes services.
