We provide a service for critically ill patients that come into hospital that need the support of either Intensive Care or High Dependency to aid their recovery.

We are a 12 bedded unit that admits patients from the Emergency Department, Theatres, other wards within the Hospital and from other Hospitals. We care for patients in need of continuous observation or specialist treatment and look after patients that may be awaiting transfer to specialist tertiary critical care units. We also support patients who have organ failure such as respiratory, cardiovascular and renal.

Patients are assessed and cared for by ICU/HDU doctors, nurses and therapists.

A Rehab Clinic is provided by the Critical Care Outreach Team to support patients after discharge from the hospital. This allows the patient to outline and discuss any problems / anxieties they may have had during their stay.

We actively participate in research and audit.
